With this painting, Engel won the first prize in the landscape painting competition (Paysage arcadien ou romantique section) of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, 1832; Salon of Ghent, 1832, nos. 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39 or 40. He exhibited anonymously.
