With this painting, Bodumont won the first prize in the history painting competition (section Prix pour les élèves) of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, 1823; Salon van Gent, 1823, nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11. He exhibited anonymously in the Concours pour le Tableau d'Histoire, with the theme Le Seigneur et la Samaritaine.
