The scene depicts Ghent painter Leon De Smet at work in his studio. Next to the painter's head is a pedestal with the drawn-out figure of a kneeling man entitled 'De kunst' [The Arts], a clear reference to the oeuvre of George Minne. The print was published posthumously by the association The Friends of the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent.
