The female personification of Temperance (Temperantia) is depicted with the bit of a horse's toad in her mouth, a clock on her head and glasses in her hand. She is surrounded by a variety of scenes illustrating this virtue. Top left, a theatre play and people making music can be seen. Bottom left, people are counting money. On the bottom right, we see pupils and their teacher. In the middle back, an astronomer is at work with a measuring instrument. Below the scene is a two-line caption in Latin.
