In the allegory on the death of stadholder William IV on 22 October 1751, the tomb for the stadholder is encircled with garlands by saints bearing the arms of the seven provinces. Next to the tomb is the mourning Dutch Virgin. In the background, the young Prince William V is received at the entrance to the temple of science. Above, two angels carry a portrait medallion of William IV through the clouds.
