This lithograph by Maurice Denis is one of thirteen colour lithographs that make up the Amour series. The series, on which Denis worked from 1892 onwards, according to his diary, was published in 1899 by the Parisian art dealer Ambroise Vollard. As usual with Vollard's publications, only three of the thirteen lithographs are signed by the artist.
