"Your Garden of Love is delightful", wrote Ensor's friend Emma Lambotte when she was sent this elaborate print by Ensor. Ensor coloured in many prints and sometimes went so far that little of the original print is visible anymore and a new 'painting' is created, as it were. Ensor probably borrowed the theme of the love garden from the work of Antoine Watteau, which he knew from reproductions. The print shows strong similarities with 'Les Jaloux', a lost painting by Watteau, whose depiction is known in print. The museum owns various states of the etching, including one coloured version.
