Between 1924 and 1926 Frits van den Berghe made various series in a mixed technique of pencil, watercolour and gouache, such as The Woman and The Fair. These series are very important in Van den Berghe's oeuvre because he was able to give free rein to his satirical skills, his humour and his ability to make poignant characterisations. Adventure is possibly the first page of his cycle The Woman. Van den Berghe light-heartedly recorded the desire for freedom and the man-woman relationship, which is experienced as problematic, in a number of lines and brush strokes.
