During the years 1897-1899, George Minne designed several works that are in line with the graceful Art Nouveau style, such as 'Small Injured Figure' from 1898 and 'Woman Bathing' from 1899. The wooden sculpture 'The Bricklayer' from 1897, originally intended for a stairwell in a house designed by Victor Horta, is also in keeping with the Art Nouveau concept in which sculpture is given a decorative function in interior design. The motif is derived from a drawing of a resting farmer.
