This medal is original in that the reverse is a continuation of the obverse. On the obverse we see a woman presenting a gift for a prisoner, while on the reverse we see the prisoner in his cell accepting the package. Oscar Roty had already used this process of reverse - continuation of obverse in his plaque on the Fresnes-les-Rungis prison (also in this collection). This medal was also issued in small format as a pendant with a diameter of 28 mm. The girl was modelled on the little daughter of Devreese's sister Hortense. During the First World War, the sale of this medal was temporarily forbidden by the German occupying forces.
