Auguste Wahlen, a printer in Brussels, had a medal struck himself with his bust on the obverse, on the occasion of a new edition of the "Nouveau Dictionnaire de la Conversation". With this, he mainly wanted to boost sales. The bronze edition was intended for the seller who realised the most subscriptions. The three silver gilt copies were destined for a Belgian and a foreign bookshop, and for the private individual who placed the most orders. Finally, the gold copy went to the person or bookshop that was able to sell the largest number of books.
