This portrait medal depicts French chemist Michel-Eugène Chevreul (1786-1889). He was attached to the Academy of Sciences and later became director of the famous goblin factories. The reverse of the medal refers to his work as a scientist. The very elderly Chevreul received this portrait medal from his students on his 100th birthday. He died in Paris on 9 April 1889.
