The association 'Cercle of Friends of the Medallion' was founded in New York in 1909. They regularly issued art medals for which the best American engravers were tapped such as John Flanagan and Victor Brenner. Between 1909 and 1915, 12 medals were issued, of which this medal was the fourth. The inscription lists suggest that about 500 copies were made of each issue. Brenner exhibited this medal at the Salon of the Medal during the 1910 World Fair in Brussels. The obverse depicts a mother and child, while the reverse shows a winged cupid blowing a trumpet.
