As a tribute to the alliance between Russia and France, a new bridge in Paris was named Pont Alexandre III. Nicholas II, the last tsar of Russia and son of Alexander III was present in Paris with his wife tsarina Alexandra on 7 October 1906 to lay the foundation stone of this Alexander-III bridge. Daniel Dupuis signed this commemorative medal with a rather bombastic composition, in which two women personify Russia and France while the third woman looks up to the effigy of Alexander III. The Monnaie de Paris used older designs for this. The medal is dated 1906 while Daniel Dupuis had already died in 1899.
