This plaque by French medallist Séraphin Emile Vernier, allegorically represents archaeology. The obverse shows an idealised depiction of a female nude surrounded by excavated objects. The woman stands knee-deep in the excavation and holds a vase in her hand. With this plaque, Vernier was represented at the Salon of the Medal during the 1910 World's Fair in Brussels.
