Under the impetus of the publisher Lodewijk De Vriese, a Provincial Exhibition was held in 1899 in the former Citadel Barracks in Ghent. Approximately 400 companies of all kinds took part in the festivities that took place in and during the exhibition. This medal, engraved by Victor Lemaire, was presented to all participating societies. On the obverse is the Virgin of Ghent and on the reverse an inscription commemorating this event.
