About Astrid Vandendael
Astrid Vandendael studied illustration at PXL Hasselt and animated film at the KASK in Ghent.
“I enjoy experimenting with materials. My illustrations go beyond pencil, ink and marker: I like to add in digital elements and a range of printing techniques to create the perfect collage. My figures are often fat and clueless. They try to understand what is going on around them, but they aren’t very successful. I often start from my own experiences and everyday situations, looking at them in a melancholy, slightly removed way.”
