Since May 2023, 7 panels of the Ghent Altarpiece are being restored in the heart of the MSK. During this guided tour, dive into the world of Jan van Eyck and find out how the restoration has made us look differently at this Flemish master.
In May 2023, the third and final restoration phase of the Mystic Lamb began. Seven panels of the masterpiece by Jan and Hubert van Eyck moved to the MSK, where you can see the restorers of the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage live at work in the studio behind glass.
During the 'Lamb of God' tour, the guide will take you into Van Eyck's world and you will stand face to face with Adam and Eve, the singing and music-making angels and the three central religious figures. You will discover more about the history of the Mystic Lamb and why this devout work is so world-famous. The guide will also introduce you to contemporaries in the MSK's collection and to the world of the Flemish Primitives: an international network of artists, craftsmen, traders and wealthy patrons.
