The print enjoys fame under the generic title 'Vieille tourelle', but actually concerns the artist's view from his residence on Isabellakaai (then Sint-Pieterskaai) in Ghent. The oriel tower on the Muinkschelde dates from the 17th century and was part of the city's bastion walls.
