In Three Veiled Women, George Minne portrays a scene from the Passion of Christ. By limiting his representation to the portrayal of the three mourning women, he does away with the narrative element, choosing instead to focus on the expression of general human sadness. The concept harkens back to the medieval pleurants or mourners. Besides several bronze copies, here are also several plaster and wood versions of his sculpture.
