The engraver and publisher Philips Galle is seen half-side up, on the right, standing behind a table. With his right hand he folds open a print on the table. On the table are a burin and a paperweight with a stack of paper underneath. A copper plate rests against the button of the paperweight. In the background is a landscape with a biblical scene on the left: Philippus baptising the eunuch. In the Ghent copy, the margin below the portrait with a hymn by Goltzius to Galle in seven lines of Latin has been cut off.
