The evangelist John sits on the ground under a tree, a thick book on his lap. In his right hand he holds a quill which he dips into the inkwell, held by the eagle, his attribute. In the background on the right, Christ as the good shepherd can be seen; behind on the left, Christ's baptism in the Jordan. Below the scene is a two-line text in Latin.
