The personification of Faith with cross and gospel sits next to a crowned woman holding a monstrance. Near them, Superstition sits on its back, with owl on its head and a censer in its hand. On the right, History writes the history of the popes. In the background on the right a round church building, on the left Christians are tortured and put to death. Faith is shone upon from a cloud by Hope with anchor and a woman with heart with cross in hand. The print was used as the title print for Archibald Bower, Historie der Pausen (Amsterdam: 1752).
