Nebuchadnezzar had the three youths Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego thrown into a burning furnace after they refused to worship a golden statue. An angel sent by God kept the youngsters unharmed. Because the fire in the furnace was exceptionally hot, the men who brought the three to the furnace were killed by the blazing flames (Dan. 5:1).
