Drawing by Normand after the reverse of the so-called 'Reward medal for Palembang' by Dutch artist J.B. Braemt. Depicted is an ancient Greek soldier (a hoplite) standing on the prow of a ship. Next to him is a winged figure, probably symbolising Victory. The obverse of the medal (but not the drawing) shows the portrait of King William I. The medal was struck on the occasion of the recapture by the United Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1821 of the principality of Palembang. It was subsequently awarded to members of the expeditionary army. Another drawing by Normand after the same medal is kept in the Goetghebuer album (inv. 2009-K-118).
