Ensor published the series "The Seven Deadly Sins" in 1904 in the form of an album, with a preface by his friend Eugène Demolder. The series of prints was not made in one go. From 1888 dates "Lust". In 1902 and 1904, the other prints were added. There are preliminary studies in coloured chalk for all the etchings. These drawings are mirror images of the prints, except for "Lust", which was probably made after the etching of 1888. Ensor repeatedly coloured "The Seven Deadly Sins". He told Demolder that the album gave him great satisfaction, but that he particularly preferred the heightened prints.
