This marble bust represents Mrs Auguste Buysse. She was born in Gosselies as Sylvie Aubry in 1850 and died in Ghent on 6 January 1931. She was the stepmother of the painter Georges Buysse, who was born from the first marriage of her husband, and the aunt of the writer Cyriel Buysse. Together with Alfred Baertsoen, her husband managed the large textile factory Baertsoen & Buysse. She participated in the cultural life of Ghent at that time and was particularly interested in literature and fine arts.
