This drawing faithfully follows the composition of the painting that De Crayer executed around 1649 for the Augustinian Church in Leuven and that has been in St Rombouts Cathedral in Mechelen since 1934. The figure of St. Rochus, who is depicted kneeling in the middle of the painting, is missing, as well as an anvil, the attribute of the kneeling Adrian. It is not clear whether this drawing is an incomplete ricordo of the painting or a study.
