The alabaster Virgin and Child in its original state must have been a standing figure and probably composed of two or three blocks placed one on top of the other. The monumental figure of the Virgin with a serene expression, wrapped in a cloak with broad, expressive folds, is typical of the Eyckian style from the middle of the 15th century, which is echoed far beyond the country's borders.
