Swiss engraver Hans Frei designed this plaque depicting Erasmus, based on the portrait of Hans Holbein that is in the Musée du Louvre in Paris. The priest, theologian, philosopher and humanist Erasmus is dressed in a fur-lined cloak and he is writing in a book. His name is written in Gothic script. In the background is room wallpaper with an animal and floral motif and horizontal stripes on the right. Above the scholar's hat, the engraver's name is shown in a frame.
