This medal, designed by French medallist Hubert Ponscarme, is marked in the history of medal art as the starting point of a major innovation. With the increasing popularity of the reduction bench and the use of a modified patina, not only stamp cutters but now sculptors could also produce medals. That is why this medal was centrally presented at the Salon de la Médaille during the 1910 World Fair in Brussels. It also appears as the only piece on the cover of the Salon's catalogue. The portrayed, Joseph Naudet (1786-1878) was a French historian, teacher, librarian and writer.
