The Société Royale Belge des Aquarellistes was an association of deserving watercolourists living in Belgium and was founded on the initiative of Jean-Baptiste Madou in order to organise watercolour exhibitions in Brussels. It was the first association in the genre, after the Watercolor Society, founded in 1804 in Great Britain. Later, like-minded societies were founded in the Netherlands and France. As with many art circles, one does not know when the activities ceased. This plaque was issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Société Royale Belge des Aquarellistes. On the front, it shows a man in profile, with an axe in his hand.
