Fernand Dubois was commissioned back in 1891 by the 'Association Belge de Photographie' to design a medal for their international exhibition. This example from 1896 shows on the obverse a naked woman holding a photographic plate while using a magnifying glass to focus a ray of sunlight on the plate. The medal is dedicated to Joseph Casier, a member of the museum committee and also a passionate amateur photographer. As president of the "Association Belge de Photographie", he attended the presentation of the first cinema show in Belgium by the Lumière brothers in November 1895. During his presidency, the association organised numerous international exhibitions of photography, such as the one in Brussels in 1896 for which Casier received the medal in his name.
