The depiction of Victory with palm and laurel wreath on the one hand (reverse) and the classic image of the discus thrower after the famous statue of Myron on the obverse on the other make this medal suitable as a prize medal for sports competitions. It was available in three different sizes and, if desired, fitted with a carrying eye to be hung on a ribbon. It was one of the standard products of the Monnaie de Paris.
