Morlon here depicts Gaul as a woman wearing a winged helmet and hair in two braids. She holds the hilt of a sword and a laurel branch in front of her. The Latin designation Gallia represents the western area of Europe, corresponding to modern France, Belgium, western Switzerland, and parts of the Netherlands and Germany west of the Rhine. On the reverse of the medal, a rectangular field is left free for an inscription on a background of laurel leaves.
