Antoine Toussaint Emile Massaux began his career at the age of 17 with the Royal Commission of Monuments, which had been established on 7 January 1835 by Leopold I. He became a member of the Commission in 1908. On the occasion of this appointment and because of his great merit in previous years, he was portrayed in this plaque of honour. In 1912, the scope of the Royal Commission on Monuments was expanded to include the Landscapes section, changing its name to the Royal Commission on Monuments and Landscapes.
