This rectangular plaque shows on the front the paired busts of the three Ganshof children with their names. Their grandparents ordered this plaque from Godfried Devreese. Franz, the eldest, became Professor of History at Ghent University and Doctor of Letters and Philosophy. In World War I, he was an officer and, in 1919, one of the Belgian delegates to the peace talks. Afterwards, he became a lawyer at the Ghent Court of Appeal. He died on 26 July 1980. His brother Georg, was an officer in the 1st Regiment of Guides and a volunteer during the war. He died on 23 November 1973. Walter, the youngest, was a lawyer at the Court of Appeal in Brussels, magistrate at the Court of Cassation and judge ad hoc at the International Court in The Hague. The original plaster design of this plaque as well as a gold copy are still kept in the family.
