This medal, the first by sculptor Jules Lagae, was issued as a reward for exhibitors at the 1897 World's Fair in Brussels. The obverse depicts a man working with a hammer on an anvil and a woman holding a horn of plenty. They reach out to each other, while behind them a female figure embraces the couple. The reverse shows a crowned Belgian coat of arms.
