Pierre Maugis, seigneur des Granges, counsellor and maître d'hôtel to the king, was the brother of the famous abbé de Saint-Ambroise, who was the first to collect prints in France, and whose cabinet was acquired by M. l'abbé de Marolles. He is depicted in a three-quarter view, bareheaded, facing front, wrapped in his cloak, and turned right into an octagonal border.
