In Delft, certain painters also specialized in reproducing church interiors. Their work was more about capturing the atmosphere than correctly rendering the proportions and perspective. Their depictions were based on well-known church buildings, although the interior elements were often manipulated. While the painter Hendrik van Vliet was primarily concerned with the monumentality of his imaginary architecture, a narrative aspect was also important. People enter the church, one even accompanied by his dog.
