In addition to his paintings, Victor Servranckx also did just a few sculptures. This work, Opus 1, dates from his purely abstract geometric period, which, in his own estimation, was from 1921 to 1924. It was made of bronze, onyx and plaster. In 1923, Servranckx incorporated portrayals of this sculpture twice, from different angles, into one of his most monumental paintings, Exaltation of Mechanisation, which is in the Royal Museums of the Fine Art of Belgium in Brussels. The Musée d’Ixelles has a painting by Servranckx from the same year, called Opus 53, depicting only this same sculpture against a uniform background.
