Frantz Charlet painted landscapes, cityscapes, portraits and family scenes in the French Impressionist tradition. The artist was a master in the depiction of the subtle vibrations in the ever-changing light and of fleeting impressions, which he translated into sketchy, dynamic and colourful images. Charlet played an important role in the creation of Les Vingt. Initially, the artist was the secretary of the group. He soon realised, however, that this position would require too much of him and resigned. Octave Maus succeeded him in this role. Charlet ended his artistic career in Paris, where he exhibited regularly at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and at the Galerie Georges Petit.
