This etching is one of the most daring in Ensor's graphic oeuvre. It refers to the painting "The Fall of the Rebellious Angels" by Pieter Bruegel (Brussels, Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium), the etching "The Temptation of St Anthony" by Jacques Callot and the fantastic figures of Hieronymus Bosch. The etching is above all a highlight of Ensor's own fantastic language of forms.
